The 4-H Food Challenge was developed by county agents to address the need for a
new, “highly charged” foods experience. This contest is modeled after competitions
on the Food Network’s “Iron Chef”. It challenges teams of 4-H members to create a
dish using only predetermined number of ingredients. From these ingredients, team
members must identify & prepare the dish, then make a presentation to the judges.
The presentation will include information about the serving size, nutritional value &
cost of the dish. The 4-H Food Challenge allows members to demonstrate culinary and
food safety skills to judges & observers.
Here are the basics:

The Food Challenge has 2 age divisions: Juniors/Intermediates & Seniors

Each Team is made up of at least 3 and no more than 5 members. JUNIOR/
INTERMEDIATE teams may be mixed, but SENIOR teams may ONLY be made of
SENIOR aged 4-H members.

Teams can be mixed & matched between county 4-H clubs.

Each team will have a maximum of 40 minutes to prepare the dish, plan a
presentation & clean up the preparation area.

Supply Box—can ONLY have what is listed on the supply sheet.

Food Categories: Main Dish ~ Fruits & Vegetables ~ Grains ~ Nutritious Snacks

Teams will be randomly assigned to a category.
