2012 Food Show dates have been set

The county food show will be held January 16, 2012 at 9:30 am at the Extension Office. Deadline to Register is January 11th. Please register with Wendi Green by 5:00 pm.

The deadline to register for the district food show is January 29th. It will be held on February 11th at Stephen F. Austin University.

2011-2012 Guidelines


The 2011-2012 year for 4-H is upon us. :-) The following is information related tot he Food Show/Food Challenge. There are a lot of changes, so please read through the information carefully. Thank you. :-)


The major changes are related to the contest resources, with MyPlate replacing MyPyramid. The resources are referenced throughout the document; however, the resource section is located on page 19. The changes to the resources are summarized below.

In preparation for the Food Challenge, participants should not limit themselves to studying only the resources provided at the contest. Resources that may be helpful include (but are not limited to):

• MyPlate – www.myplate.gov

• Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 – www.health.gov/dietaryguidelines/dga2010/DietaryGuidelines2010.pdf

• Fight Bac! – www.fightbac.org

Food Preservation Workshop

There will be a Food Preservation Workshop on June 3, 2001.

Location: Norwood Heights Baptist Church
2214 HWY 155
Palestine, TX

Cost: $25 per person or $35 per husband/wife couple

Time: Registration 8:45 am
Workshop 9:00 am - Noon

Make checks payable to Program Development Fund

MUST pre-register by May 24th.

Demonstrations will be provided pressure canning, water bath canning, freezing and dehydration. Tips, recipes, guidelines and samples for all attendees.

Participants are encouraged to bring their pressure cookers Presto, National, Magic Seal and Maid of Honor to have their gauges tested for FREE.

Chef Camp June 6th -10th

Chef at Camp will be held June 6-10, 2011 for those who have completed 6th grade through age 17.

DEADLINE!

Good Afternoon,

The deadline for entering the 2011 Food Show/Food Challenge and Poster Contest in Friday, December 17!

Please enter on 4-H Connect.

Food Show - Recipes and scoresheet, with your name at the top need to be e-mailed to Willie no later than 12 Noon December 17.


Display Contest - Three place setting awards will be presented in each age division. No entry fee or pre-registration is required for this contest! However, entries must also be Food Show participants. A space 24 inches in width will be allowed for each contestant. Each 4-H member will have his or her dish completed before being seated in the designated area. Entries will be grouped according to the category entered. Only edible garnishes are allowed.
Participants will remove their dish from the place setting and take it to the judging table for the interview. Food Show Judges will not see the place setting until after the judging.

POSTER CONTEST - Due Jan. 13 to Extension Office - Theme: "Don‟t Supersize Your Life: Portion Control"

NO entry fee nor pre-registration is required for this contest!
You do NOT have to go to SFA to enter.
No limit to the number of posters that each county can enter; however, each child is limited to one poster.
Poster must be on a poster board that measures 28"x22". NO FOAM BOARD OR OTHER MATERIALS PLEASE. Posters will be judged on creativity and the nutritional message that the poster conveys. This contest is open to all age divisions. Ribbons to the top five places in each age division as appropriate.

The theme for the 2011 poster contest is *Don't Supersize Your Life:
Portion Control*. Five places will be awarded in each age division.
Neither entry fee nor pre-registration is required for this contest!
Participants in the poster contest do not have to be entered in the
Food Show nor be present to win! No entry fee or pre-registration is
required to participate in this contest.
